Council Supports Free Senior’s Health and Wellness Morning

Goondiwindi Regional Council is supporting local service providers with a free event focused on health and wellness for senior residents. The event will be held on Monday 2 December 2024 from 9am at Oak Tree Retirement Village, Goondiwindi.
The morning will feature expert advice from local health professionals, including local dietician Margot Hawker, physiotherapist Emma McNaughton and Dr Amy Rayner from Life Chiropractic. Topics of conversation will range from tips on healthy eating for heart health, gentle exercises for mobility and movement and cardiovascular health.
Professor Darren Walters MBBS MPhiL FRACP FCSANZ FSCAI, Structural Interventional Cardiologist and Director of Cardiology at the Prince Charles Hospital will join the forum virtually as a representative of the Heart of Australia truck to discuss cardiovascular health and Heart of Australia services.
Attendees will enjoy a light lunch and have the opportunity to ask questions and connect with the speakers and other community members.
Cr Phil O’Shea, Council’s portfolio holder for Health and Ageing, emphasises the importance of preventative health measures.
“Council is excited to support this opportunity for our senior residents to learn about healthy lifestyle habits. By focusing on prevention and early intervention, we can improve the overall health and wellbeing of our community,” he said.
Event coordinator Georgia Hagiel, from Fitness for Quality Life encourages everyone to attend and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and connect.
“This event promotes healthy ageing, and we encourage all seniors to attend and take advantage of the expert advice that is on offer,” she said.
The Senior’s Healthy Living forum is supported by joint funding from the Australian and Queensland Governments’ Community Recovery and Resilience program under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA). This is the last Council supported initiatives to come out of this funding which has funded similar projects over the last two years including the Inglewood Healthy Living Program, Multicultural Social Basketball and a small business mentoring program.
