Refurbishment of Tots Pool to Commence at Goondiwindi Memorial Pool
Published on 03 September 2024
Council advises that the $170,000 refurbishment of the toddlers' wading pool at the Goondiwindi Memorial Pool has been delayed due to unforeseen technical design delays and contractor availability. The works are set to start in mid-September and are expected to be completed by mid-October.
Council initially planned to complete these works during the off-season. Still, unforeseen technical design delays and contractor availability have pushed the timeline to September. However, the works will not affect the operation of the large pool or the heated learn-to-swim pool, which is due to reopen on September 9, 2024. The Inglewood and Texas pools will also open on Monday, September 9, for the season.
The refurbishment will not only address long-standing issues with the pool's filtration system but also bring about significant improvements. Council worked closely with a local contractor to develop a practical and affordable solution. This upgrade includes replacing the outdated pipework, installing a new filtration system, and pouring a new concrete concourse, providing a better pool experience for all.
Councillor Kym Skinner, Council’s portfolio holder for Lifestyle, expressed the importance of the upgrade, stating, "While it is not ideal to have a delay in accessing this area, we are pleased to provide a new filtration system that meets current circulation requirements, ensuring much better water quality for users just in time for the summer season."
In addition to the filtration system upgrade, the concrete surrounds and pool edge, which showed signs of deterioration, will be refreshed following the installation of the new pipes.
"Replacing the pipework and system also results in lower running costs," Cr Skinner added.
Council thanks the local lessee and pool patrons for their patience and cooperation during these essential works and looks forward to unveiling the upgraded facilities in mid-October.
This project is partially funded by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund.
