Yes! Council ensures all water that is treated and supplied to the region is safe to drink, and exceeds the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

There can be a number of reasons why your water tastes, smells, or looks different. These reasons include a change in water supply (i.e., drawing from a bore ), or environmental changes (i.e., flooding, droughts, etc.). These changes are often the cause of your water looking differently, and they also impact the way we have to treat you water which leads to differences in the taste and smell.

Water quality is tested daily (even on Christmas Day) through routine Council testing. There are also other testing schemes conducted on a weekly and monthly basis (i.e., NATA Lab Testing). These tests check for contaminants, chemical balance, and overall safety to ensure our drinking water meets all regulatory requirements.

If your water looks cloudy or tastes different, it may be due to temporary changes in the water supply or maintenance work. Run the tap for a few minutes to see if it clears up. If the issue persists, contact Council for assistance.

Chlorine is added to most drinking water in Queensland to kill harmful bacteria that may be present. The amount of chlorine acceptable in drinking water is as per the Australian Drinking Guidelines. Council conducts daily tests to ensure that our water is safe for consumption.

Yes. In Goondiwindi, Texas, Talwood and Yelarbon there is bore water blended with river water all year round. The blended potable supply is treated to be within the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
