Two Celebrations to honour Australia Day nominees

With 26 community members and organisations nominated across five categories, the 2023 Australia Day Awards promises the opportunity for our region to reflect, respect and celebrate.

Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM said Australia Day is fast approaching.

“I would like to invite all residents to join in the celebrations at our Australia Day Awards ceremonies in either Goondiwindi or Texas this coming Thursday, 26 January.

“Australia Day Awards tell the story of our region, our achievements, and most importantly, our people,” Cr Springborg said.

Tim Fairfax AC and Gitie House OAM have been announced as the Goondiwindi and Inglewood/Texas Australia Day ambassadors.

Mr Fairfax is the Chairman of the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation, a company director, pastoralist and philanthropist.

He is passionate about supporting rural, remote and regional communities, particularly students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. He has a range of business interests including operating nine rural properties in Queensland and New South Wales involving beef, fine wool and grain.

Ms Gitie House is the President of the Toowoomba International Multicultural Society Inc, Chair of the Toowoomba Languages and Cultures Festival and the International Street Fiesta. In 2017, Gitie was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for her services to the community.

10 am.

Ceremony starts 8.30 am.

With Tim Fairfax AC - Chairman Tim Fairfax Family Foundation.
