  • The Goondiwindi Region Visitor Information Centre has a brand new look after a two-year redesign and rejuvenation project
  • The project was funded by the state government’s Works for Queensland program
  • Council is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team of volunteers

The Goondiwindi Region Visitor Information Centre (VIC) is now ready with a brand new modern look after two years of extensive redesign and consultation with volunteers and community members.

Goondiwindi Regional Council secured $25,000 in funding from the state government’s Works for Queensland (W4Q) program for the project.

Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM said the goal of the upgrades was to repurpose the existing space within the Goondiwindi Civic Centre to create a designated ‘visitor information’ zone.

“The new-look VIC is now a contemporary attraction for both locals and visitors to access information and learn about everything the Goondiwindi Region has to offer,” Cr Springborg said. “The staff and volunteers are now even more enthusiastic than ever to assist visitors with any inquiries they may have and to help visitors get the most out of their stay.”

The VIC upgrades include new flooring, new shelving and storage, new signs and new large-scale interpretive displays featuring professional photography from around the region. There is a new hands-on exhibit for both new residents and visitors dedicated to the wide variety of agricultural produce and experiences available in the region.

A user-friendly interactive touchscreen complements the visual displays and provides an interactive and engaging way for visitors to learn about the region and discover new experiences, from public art trails, to camping guides and where to shop. There are also easy-to scan QR codes within the display that give visitors everything they need to explore the Goondiwindi Region right from their phones, including detailed lists of local places to eat and stay.

Visitors can purchase merchandise, maps and brochures, and local produce from across the region including olive products from Coolmunda Olives, lavender products from Leven K lavender farm, and much more.

The VIC upgrades are just one of the many ways that Council is working to enhance the visitor experience and promote the Goondiwindi Region as a must-visit destination.

Every year, more than 12,000 visitors walk through the doors of the Goondiwindi Civic Centre, which also houses the Gunsynd Museum and Rodeo Memorabilia Display, Goondiwindi Art Space and Library – and they are greeted at the VIC by a friendly team of local volunteers.

“Volunteering at the VIC is a great way to give back to the community, as well as meet new people from all walks of life - with many visitors coming from across the country and some even from around the world,” Cr Springborg said.

Volunteer familiarisation tours are still offered by Council to volunteers. These tours encourage volunteers to acquaint themselves with each other and the wider region, enabling them to promote the region's visitor experiences effectively.

Council is always seeking dedicated individuals to join the volunteer team to help promote local tourism offerings and make a positive impact in the community. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at the Goondiwindi VIC, please get in touch with Council’s Visitor Experience Coordinator Angela Deneault at 07 4671 7474 or visit@grc.qld.gov.au.

Council also manages the self-service Visitor Information Centres in Inglewood and Texas.

The Goondiwindi Visitor Information Centre is open 7 days a week:

  • Monday to Friday: 8.30 am - 4.30 pm
  • Saturday: 9 am - 1 pm
  • Sunday (via the Goondiwindi Cinema): lunchtime - late.
