  • Goondiwindi Regional Council secured funding for four new lights at the Inglewood MacIntyre Sports Complex
  • The new lights will allow for nighttime training, matches and events
  • Council will also install pop-up irrigation in the future

Home of the Inglewood Roosters, the MacIntyre Sports Complex, is set to receive new 100 lux lights including structural poles to help improve player and spectator safety in line with Australian standards.

The Queensland Government provided $159,630 to Goondiwindi Regional Council to upgrade the existing lights at the Inglewood MacIntyre Sports Complex oval to enable Queenslanders to participate in sport and recreation activities.

The towering structures will illuminate the oval offering optimum coverage over the entire playing field during nighttime training, matches and events.

Goondiwindi Regional Council Mayor the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM said providing high-quality facilities that clubs and the community can rely on is essential especially with winter sports back in full swing.

“The new lighting will undoubtedly enhance the overall sporting experience all year round, allowing athletes to perform at their best and the spectators to enjoy the action,” Cr Springborg said.

Councillor Lachlan Brennan who holds the portfolio for Lifestyle, Education and technology said the new lights at the MacIntyre Centre are a clear testament to Council’s dedication to promoting sports and recreational activities within the region.

“Council aims to create an environment where sports can thrive with a healthy competition and sense of community,” Cr Brennan said.

Goondiwindi Regional Council officers met with various representatives over the last six months, from the Inglewood Senior Ruby League, Junior Rugby League, the Western Clydesdales, Inglewood Social Sports, and other organisations who expressed strong support for the lighting project.

The State government funding requires the project to be completed before the end of 2024.
