The Goondiwindi Region will welcome over 200 mayors, councillors, CEOs, and industry experts to the upcoming three-day Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) Bush Council Convention held from Tuesday 25 - Thursday 27 July at the Goondiwindi Waggamba Community Cultural Centre.

The Bush Council Convention themed ‘Broad Horizons’ will cover a plethora of topics such as critical issues like disaster and housing management and shared interests, including regional roads, maximising ongoing benefit from renewable energy projects and future infrastructure requirements.

Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region, the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM, said the three-day program is packed with essential and thought-provoking sessions, where participants listen and engage with speakers, including representatives from all levels of government.

“There are 77 local governments throughout Queensland, and we look forward to hosting many of them, showcasing why we're known as 'Regional Australia at its Best'.

“Our regional community is a wonderful example of progress and innovation,” the Mayor said. “We are very fortunate in Goondiwindi to have the facilities and services that allow us to successfully host big events such as this.”

Cr Springborg said the convention is an opportunity for local, state, and national government representatives to come together and explore solutions for some of the big issues facing rural and regional councils.

The conference is hosted every two years at a different regional location and is known to inject more than $100,000 into the hosting region, which is great news for local retailers and hospitality businesses.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to stimulate the economy of our hospitality sector, local cafes, pubs and restaurants and motels,” Cr Springborg said.
