Upgrades to Inglewood and Texas potable water reservoirs are underway

  • Inglewood and Texas potable water treatment reservoirs are undergoing upgrades which will be complete later this year
  • Both sites will receive new reservoir mixers with a chlorination system
  • The project will enhance the quality of water provided to each town and improve the current disinfection process

Goondiwindi Regional Council has begun construction on the upgrades of both the Inglewood and Texas Water Treatment Plant (WTP) facilities.

A new reservoir mixer with a chlorination process is being installed at both sites. The upgrades will ensure the quality and safety of our water going forward.

The Inglewood and Texas WTPs will be better equipped to maintain consistent water quality standards and ensure that the water supplied to the communities meets the necessary standards for consumption.

The WTP upgrade projects are jointly funded by the Australian Government and Goondiwindi Regional Council. Australian Government funding of $430,000 was provided through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program. This program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects in their region, creating jobs and long-lasting benefits for communities.

Councillor Rick Kearney holds Council’s Water, Sewerage, Local Laws and Local Disaster Management portfolio and said without the assistance of the Australian Government, these important upgrades would have to come from Council’s operational budget, which is ultimately funded by the ratepayers.

“Public infrastructure is a priority for Council and to invest in the improved water quality of both Inglewood and Texas will benefit both communities,” Cr Kearney said.

Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM said these upgrades are a commitment by Council to provide improved water quality across the region and ensure the safety of the water supply for both Inglewood and Texas.

Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said he was delighted to help deliver these crucial projects to the Texas and Inglewood communities.

“Water is one of our country’s most precious resources and projects like this help ensure a clean and reliable water supply is available to our communities,” Mr Littleproud said.

“I congratulate Goondiwindi Regional Council on carrying out these vital projects, which will benefit both the Texas and Inglewood communities, and I’m proud to have secured the federal government funding to assist in making these projects a reality.”

Construction is expected to finish at the Texas WTP in August and at the Inglewood WTP in September.
