Council Calls for Community Input into the Goondiwindi Indoor Sports Centre Master Plan

Goondiwindi Regional Council is asking residents to complete a short online survey to have their say on the future of the Goondiwindi Indoor Sports Centre, known locally as the Goondiwindi PCYC.

Council is developing a master plan for the facility, which will guide its future improvements and developments and ensure it meets the community's needs for years to come. Council has already engaged with the facility's major user groups, and the next step in the process is to collect community feedback on the proposed improvement projects.

"The Goondiwindi Indoor Sports Centre is a valuable asset to our community, providing space for people of all ages and abilities to participate in an array of sporting activities," said Councillor Susie Kelly, portfolio holder for community facilities.

"We are committed to ensuring the centre continues to meet the demands of our community, and that is why we are seeking input. Feedback is vital in developing this master plan to ensure that this asset continues to reflect the needs of our community as a vibrant and functional indoor sports facility for all to enjoy,” said Cr Kelly.

The five minute survey, designed to gather valuable community insights, covers a range of topics, including current usage of the Indoor Sports Centre and will assist Council in prioritising how funds and projects should be prioritised.

Council’s portfolio holder for education and lifestyle, Cr Kym Skinner, agrees that the centre is used by a large portion of the community.

“From our school students and local youth to local sporting associations to our eldest residents, the Goondiwindi PCYC is a space many residents use at various times throughout the year. While it has served our community well, we believe there are areas that could be improved to better meet your needs.

“We need to ensure that it remains relevant and viable into the future,” stated Cr Skinner.

The Goondiwindi Indoor Sports Centre is a Council owned facility.  It has been managed by the Queensland Police Citizens and Youth Club since its construction in 2006, and is a community facility. It offers a range of services and facilities for the local community, including air-conditioned gym access, multipurpose playing courts, a boxing room, and youth development services.
