WORKS FOR QUEENSLAND FUNDING PROGRAM

The Queensland Government recently announced a funding allocation of $1.38 million for projects in the Goondiwindi Regional Council area.

A total of $200million was allocated under the Works for Queensland (W4Q) program to support rural and regional areas in recognition of the special challenges they face.  In partnership with regional and rural local councils, the Queensland Government is determined that W4Q delivers jobs where they are most needed.

Goondiwindi Regional Council Mayor Graeme Scheu said, “Our Council welcomes this funding that will support maintenance and upgrades to our existing infrastructure.” “Most of the work identified by council under the W4Q program will be completed by local contractors and provide a welcome boost to local economies”, he said.

Council has identified projects across the whole region including upgrades to water treatment plants, footpath replacement and maintenance of community recreational facilities.

Mayor Scheu listed refurbishing the Goondiwindi Cultural Centre, air conditioning of the Inglewood Civic Centre, replacing fencing around the Texas Cemetery and upgrading the Yelarbon and Talwood water treatment systems as just some of the projects. “These projects will all be delivered before November 2017 and will be a great benefit to our communities,” he said.
