THE GOONDIWINDI GOLDEN AGE CENTRE

Council has recently had discussions with representatives of the Goondiwindi PCYC regarding the utilisation of the Golden Age Centre for activities to be operated by the PCYC.

The PCYC facility in Russell Street is currently operating to capacity with limited space.  The Committee have considered a number of options to ensure the club continues to be financially viable and to be in a position to expand to meet the community needs.

At the February Ordinary Meeting, Council resolved to lease the building known as the Golden Age Centre for a period of two years to Goondiwindi PCYC on the condition that the facility remains available for community use.

“The current plan by the Committee is to honour existing commitments and bookings to ensure that the PCYC lease does not disadvantage current and future users.  In principle, the proposal simply changes the management of the facility to the PCYC, which allows for a reduction in costs to Council and for the building to be used more by the community,” said Mayor Graeme Scheu. “Council understands the importance of keeping this as a community resource”. It’s a win/win said Mayor Scheu.

The Queensland Police Citizens Youth Welfare Association are currently looking at the proposal before giving their final approval for the lease to go ahead. “We are confident that the PCYC Committee will ensure that the community gets to use the facility to its full potential,” said Mayor Scheu.
