DROUGHT SUPPORT IN GOONDIWINDI REGION

Support is at hand for drought-affected residents within the Goondiwindi region from numerous local community groups providing relief to those who have been impacted.

With the entire Goondiwindi region drought-declared, Mayor Graeme Scheu today urged residents doing it tough not to struggle in silence and to make use of the aid that is available in the region.

‘From hay distribution to mental health initiatives, there are programs of support in place to ease some of the significant financial and emotional pressures placed on communities by the dry conditions,’ Councillor Scheu said.

‘The number of drought support services and the information available to our community is just fantastic. It really shows how our region pulls together when the going gets tough and how much we value our local producers.’

Residents are also reminded that many service suppliers (such as electricity and telecoms) are able to provide payment plans, an option that Goondiwindi Regional Council also provides.

‘We cannot make it rain, but we can ensure the support is in place for our farmers and the associated businesses doing it tough to see them through until it does,’ Councillor Scheu said.

Details of drought support groups within the region can be found on our drought support page.

There are more government drought assistance programs available to Queensland producers. View them on the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries website.
