Upgrades to Texas pool ahead of summer season

Newly completed infrastructure upgrades at the Texas swimming pool will ensure greater water efficiency ahead of the new summer season, Mayor of the Goondiwindi region the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM announced today.

Goondiwindi Regional Council received $50,000 towards upgrading the pool’s pipework from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program grant.

Council additionally contributed $7,000 to the project and, where available, engaged local contractors and suppliers.

Cr Springborg said the work would lengthen the lifespan of the pool and address any previous leakages.

“The renewal and maintenance of existing public infrastructure across the whole Goondiwindi region is a huge priority for this Council,” Cr Springborg said.

“The Texas pool is a great asset to the region and an invaluable part of our local lifestyle. External funding such as the LRCI grant is a real opportunity for essential upgrades and for investment in the longevity of the facility.”

The project complements previous Council works at the Texas swimming pool to upgrade both the main pool and wading pool, along with refurbishing the toilets, showers, kiosk and office at the site.

All three of the region’s public swimming pools are owned by Goondiwindi Regional Council and privately leased. The pools will open from Monday 14 September for the 2020-21 summer season.

Cr Springborg said the recent upgrade would improve the pool’s water efficiency for the coming season.

“Council is doing all it can to ensure improved water efficiency across Council assets and operations – and a large part of this means renewing ageing infrastructure to more efficient systems to conserve water where possible.”

Texas remains on medium water restrictions with a target residential usage of 250L per person per day. Under medium restrictions, private pools must not be filled without Council permission.  Goondiwindi is also on medium water restrictions and Yelarbon remains on low.
