TALWOOD COMMUNITY SWINGS INTO ACTION

The Talwood community will soon see a new playground set installed in the recreational park area. The new playground is the result of consultation with the Talwood Community Consultative Committee.

Council representative to that committee, Councillor Rob Mackenzie, today confirmed that an order had been placed with suppliers Imagination Play who have stated a delivery period of eight-to-ten weeks.

‘Council will complete the additional works at the same time,’ Councillor Mackenzie explained. This will include improved landscaping and an upgraded entry road.

The opportunity for this project arose through a reallocation of funding from the Murray Darling Basin Economic Diversification program. The program funds social improvements to areas affected by the Murray Darling Plan.

‘Finalising the funding has been a long drawn-out process much to the frustration of both Council and residents,’ said Mayor Graeme Scheu. ‘But following the change of ministers at federal level the project is now finalised.’

The new equipment will include a beanstalk climber, café counter, double wave slide, mixed swing set, rock wall, rope net climber, twisted net climber, spacewalk and step climber. Community consultation was similarly sought for feedback about suitable playground equipment and it is hoped the new set will be a great space to play and unwind for locals and visitors alike.

The Talwood Community Consultative Committee was established two years ago with the aim of guiding Council in the needs of the community.

‘Sometimes it takes a little time, but the community support lends weight to these funding opportunities when they arise,’ Mayor Scheu explained. ‘Hopefully the playground will have been worth the wait for the Talwood community.’
