Council’s new database will connect local Goondiwindi region businesses to major projects like Inland Rail

Businesses in the Goondiwindi region will have improved opportunities to supply products and services to major projects such as Inland Rail thanks to a new online database by Goondiwindi Regional Council. The database will promote local business capability to external investors and developers.

Local businesses within the Goondiwindi region are encouraged to sign up now through Council’s website to add their details and capabilities to the database: www.grc.qld.gov.au/business/resources/business-capability-database

Mayor of the Goondiwindi region the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM said the new database will help Council to advocate for local businesses to get their specialist services and products in front of major national projects.

“As we know, there are a number of large, nation-building projects coming to the Goondiwindi region in the near future - from Inland Rail to Acconia’s MacIntyre Wind Farm in the region’s east,” the Mayor said.

“Once the new capability database is established, Council can present it to top-tier contract holders and other key stakeholders in major national projects to help them find local suppliers and services and make it easier for them to buy local, where available. They can then get in touch with those businesses directly,” he said.

“It’s a way for Council to further advocate for local businesses right across the region, and a huge opportunity for small- and medium-sized businesses especially to connect with major out-of-region investors and developers.”

The online database will be publicly available on Council’s website. Unlike a typical advertising service, it will aim to offer a complete list of products and services available from all across the Goondiwindi region. Upon registration, businesses can also choose to opt in to receive Council’s free business newsletter for regular updates about upcoming training and workshops, as well as grants and funding opportunities and other information.

Council is encouraging businesses from a broad list of industries to sign up.

“From supplying PPE to landscaping services or even windshield replacements, there’s a very long list of products and services that future projects such as Inland Rail may wish to procure – and we want to make sure they are equipped to do so locally,” Cr Springborg said.

“The Goondiwindi region in particular has everything that major projects are looking for - with an attractive business environment, strategic location and a strong culture of entrepreneurship among our local businesses. So this is about making sure local enterprises are prepared and able to benefit from these once-in-a-generation upcoming infrastructure projects.”
