Goondiwindi levee bank will hold as Macintyre River peaks today [Thursday]

« Back

The Macintyre River is rising slowly and according to the Bureau of Meteorology is expected to peak at 10.2 metres later today [Thursday], and Goondiwindi Regional Council is reassuring residents that the levee bank is set to keep Goondiwindi town safe and dry.

In comparison, the Macintyre River peaked at 10.64 metres in 2011, with the levee bank once again providing protection to the Goondiwindi township.

The Dumaresq River at Texas peaked at 8.43 metres at 6.38 pm last night [Wednesday 24 March] and the level is now falling.

As the water continues to flow west, residents west of town through to Talwood should prepare for high volumes of water to impact within the coming days.

With a great deal of rain in the region’s catchment areas, water is now flowing into the dams that service the Goondiwindi region, with Coolmunda Dam reaching 100% capacity last night.

Residents are encouraged to check road conditions before they travel and remember: if it’s flooded, forget it.  For the latest road closure information, please use the following:
