LOCAL PRODUCE IS FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Local produce will be food for thought at a free ‘masterclass’ in Goondiwindi featuring celebrity chef Peter Howard.

The workshop is tomorrow afternoon at the Goondiwindi Waggamba Community Cultural Centre.  Aimed at local businesses, it will bring together leading industry experts with food producers, caterers, chefs, and café and restaurant owners from the region.

With so much high quality produce in our district, the session will follow in the stead of Goondiwindi being recently crowned the best country town in Queensland and will explore how the region’s food can be successfully promoted to residents and visitors – with the goal of more local produce being proudly showcased on local menus.

Peter Howard will be a familiar face to many as the food editor on National 9 Network’s Today Show for 14 years. He will be joined at the workshop by regional tourism expert James Corvan and Queensland Food Fellow Alison Alexander.

The experts will sink their teeth into all the challenges of local food distribution and promotion, along with suggestions for menu writing, the benefits of storytelling and tips for engaging with festivals and events. There will be case studies of success stories and advice about which pitfalls to avoid in the journey from paddock to plate.

The workshop is a Goondiwindi Regional Council event delivered by Tourism Darling Downs. The session is free but spaces are limited – if you would like to attend, please contact Megan Long on mlong@grc.qld.gov.au or 07 4671 7401.
