Goondiwindi Regional Council celebrates second Ordinary Meeting in Inglewood

« Back

Goondiwindi Regional Council held its Ordinary Meeting in Inglewood today, marking the second time such a meeting has been held in the town since 2009 and continuing Council’s commitment to hold regular meetings outside of Goondiwindi.

Members of the community joined the Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM and councillors for morning tea at the Inglewood Council Chambers following the meeting.

Cr Springborg said he was pleased to have met face-to-face with so many residents throughout the morning.

“I think it’s always valuable to hear people’s views and opinions about local matters first-hand as it’s so important to have the views of our smaller towns represented,” the Mayor said.

“Holding our Ordinary Meetings regularly in Inglewood and Texas is an important representation of Council’s commitment to the region as a whole, beyond Goondiwindi.”

On the Ordinary Meeting agenda this morning was the appointment of a new Deputy Chairperson for the region’s Local Disaster Management Group, the Talwood Community Consultative Committee’s submission of the Talwood Masterplan 2021, and a number of funding requests among other matters.

Councillors also tabled their submission to the federal government’s 2021 Regional Telecommunications Review for endorsement. Council will release more information about this submission soon.

Council has committed to holding an Ordinary Meeting in Inglewood and Texas every six months on rotation for the duration of this term. The Mayor strongly encouraged other interested residents to attend future meetings if they can.

“I’ve said multiple times now that this Council works for all 19,000+ square kilometres of the Goondiwindi Region, and my fellow councillors and I are proud to represent residents across the entirety of our local government area,” he said.

“Our next Ordinary Meeting to be held outside of Goondiwindi is scheduled for March 2022 in Texas, and I’d like to invite all interested residents to attend that if they can.”

Council will advertise the exact date closer to the time of the meeting.

The Mayor also regularly works from the Inglewood Civic Centre and Texas Cultural Centre -this is usually on the fourth Friday of the month in Inglewood, and the second Tuesday of the month in Texas.

Additional appointments are often available in alignment with the Mayor’s visits to these towns and residents are encouraged to call 07 4671 7437 to make an appointment. Appointments are also available in Goondiwindi and Talwood.
