New Plans for Town Park

The Goondiwindi Town Park is set to receive a makeover to improve its functionality for the local community.

The Goondiwindi Regional Council received the request to improve the park from the Goondiwindi RSL Sub Branch.  The plans include the construction of a new rotunda along with an improved landscape design.

The rotunda will be completed in time for Remembrance Day this year as a way to mark the upcoming centenary of the end of the First World War – a day of particular poignancy to the RSL, who will fund the rotunda’s construction.

Initial preparations will begin from April 3 with work on the rotunda beginning straight after Anzac Day to meet tight construction deadlines.

The Council will assist the project by preparing the site and running electricity to the rotunda that will feature seating and power points to ensure it best caters to the needs of the community.

‘The park is a beautiful space and we want to help it work for everyone – from market days to Australia Day,’ said Goondiwindi RSL Sub Branch President Tony Stepney.

‘We’re very passionate about this, all of us,’ Mr Stepney said. ‘The members who have helped to organise this have done a marvellous job.’

Representatives from the RSL Sub Branch, Hell of the West and the Rotary Club Goondiwindi have all helped with designing the new plans for the park.

‘We are excited about the potential of the new plans,’ said Councillor Lachlan Brennan. ‘The improvements will present new ways that community members can use the park and are a fitting way for Goondiwindi to commemorate the centenary of the end of WW1.’
