Last chance to get your first dose COVID-19 vaccine in Inglewood and Texas

« Back

It’s the final call for Inglewood and Texas residents to get their COVID-19 vaccine locally, as the medical centres in both towns will be ceasing the administering of vaccines.

Residents will have one last opportunity to get their first dose in the towns in the coming days as follows:

·         Texas:

TOMORROW, Friday 29 October, by appointment only at the Texas Medical Centre.

There will be a final follow-up session in the coming weeks for those who have their first dose tomorrow at the Texas Medical Centre.

·         Inglewood:
MONDAY 1 November, 8.30am - 5pm at the Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN ‘VaxBus’ in the Inglewood town square (near the IGA). First and second Pfizer doses for over-12s, no appointment needed - just bring I.D (Medicare Card, Drivers Licence etc.). There will be a final follow-up clinic later in the month for those who have their first dose during the Monday VaxBus session.

Residents who have already booked their second dose at either medical centre will still be able to receive their vaccine as organised.

Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM is encouraging Inglewood and Texas residents to make the most of this final opportunity to ‘arm themselves’ in their local towns before the Queensland border is set to open on 17 December.

“As the country opens up the reality is that the virus will circulate more broadly,” the Mayor said. “The best thing we can do to prepare ourselves is to get vaccinated.

“Nearly 80% of our region are already fully vaccinated, and we’ve been extremely lucky to have such easy access to it on our doorstep for a long time now,” he said. “But this will be the last chance to get the jab in Inglewood and Texas.

“So, to anyone who’s been thinking about it or putting it off: this is the sign to get it now. Make sure you don’t miss out.”

The vaccine is also available in Goondiwindi or further afield in Toowoomba.

Cr Springborg said both the Inglewood and Texas medical centres had advised they will no longer be administering first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine due to limited demand.

“While it’s great news that we’re down to such a small minority locally who are still yet to get their first dose, that means our smaller regional medical centres might only be getting a request for one vaccine on a given day,” he said. “As each vial contains multiple doses, there’s wastage when only one person wants a vaccine. Understandably, the last thing our local health practitioners want to do as we race towards the 70% national target is waste any potential doses.

“I’m very hopeful that these final clinics in Inglewood and Texas will give us the last boost we need to reach that 90% figure for first doses in the Goondiwindi Region.”
