Goondiwindi Region on Flood Watch - Inglewood Residents Placed on Alert

« Back

Council has been advised by the Bureau of Meteorology that the region should expect significant weather including heavy rain, damaging winds and possible hail from later today for the rest of the week.

The Bureau of Meteorology modelling provide a range of potential scenarios that may result in significant flooding over the coming days, including potential record flood levels.

Today the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG), consisting of Council, Queensland Police Service, Emergency Services and Queensland Health and other relevant agencies has been stood up in preparation for the potential flood event.

All LDMG stakeholders, including Council are undertaking flood preparations in anticipation of a developing flood scenario.

Of particular concern is the Inglewood area, Coolmunda Dam is full and the catchment area is already saturated.  This means that any sort of reasonable rain event will place the Inglewood community at risk.

Inglewood residents are asked to be at a heightened sense of alert and awareness for the pending weather event.  There is no need to panic, but residents need to prepare now.

Inglewood residents are urged to refer to the Inglewood Flood Action Guide to help with their preparations.  A copy can be found at the local Inglewood Customer Service Centre, or downloaded from Council’s website - https://www.grc.qld.gov.au/downloads/file/649/inglewood-flood-action-guide-v10-final-webpdfpdf

Please visit the Inglewood Flood Action Guide and follow the full instructions on what to do if a flood is likely (from page 16 on)
