Teresa is State Champion of Change
The Goondiwindi Region can boast another state champion after Goondiwindi Regional Council Manager of Disaster Management and Operational Support, Teresa Pfingst was awarded the Inspector-General of Emergency Management’s Champion of Change Award.
The award ceremony was held on 8 March 2018 at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane at the joint public safety agencies International Women’s Day event. The award recognised Teresa’s efforts to encourage change and continual improvement in disaster management locally, regionally and across the state.
During the year, Teresa presented to the Local Government Disaster Management Forum in Cairns and facilitated a discussion session. During the session Teresa promoted an alternative to current disaster management planning practice based upon relative risks and promoted the challenges of smaller Council‘s in complying with current requirements in Disaster Management.
Teresa was a part of the Warwick Disaster District Capability Improvement Project, which was a pilot project, aimed at improving disaster management outcomes across the district.
“We are so fortunate to have such a passionate and professional person looking after this area of Council,” Local Disaster Management Group Chairman and Deputy Mayor Rick Kearney said.
“There are just so many demands from a range of stakeholders asking Council to be involved in planning, exercises and events and Teresa manages to make them all work while balancing the other elements of her role.”
“It only happens because Teresa is always looking to do things better, more efficiently and for the good of the community and nobody else.”
“We are so happy to see that others have recognised what we have known for some time, that Teresa is a champion.”
