Goondiwindi Region Flood Update 2 – Inglewood Voluntary Self- Evacuation

« Back

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) have late this afternoon provided modelling that has prompted a precautionary voluntary self-evacuation for low lying areas of Inglewood. State Emergency Services (SES) have commenced door knocking those residents at risk of potential flooding.

The Inglewood self-evacuation is voluntary and an Evacuation Assembly Point has NOT been set-up. Residents at risk are encouraged to relocate to family or friends either in town or to travel east e.g. to Warwick. Currently the Cunningham Highway is closed outside of Goondiwindi and this is not an option for residents.

Properties upstream of Texas are also encouraged to be on alert with significant rainfall in the upper catchment including in the Tenterfield area, which has led to significant stream rises.

Based on this latest advice the Goondiwindi Region Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has been stood up.

The concern for Inglewood residents is due to the significant rainfall in the Upper Macintyre Brook which is running into Coolmunda Dam and this is spilling back into the system. Current BoM predictions are that there will be a peak early Wednesday morning, slightly above 10 m.

Every flood is different and we encourage all Goondiwindi Region residents to remain alert and to monitor the latest warnings until this weather system passes.
