Goondiwindi Region Flood Update #7 – Dumaresq River expected to peak at major level this evening – 1 December 2021

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has issued a warning for major flooding expected along the Dumaresq River at Texas later today [1 December 2021].

The Dumaresq River at Texas is currently around 7 metres (moderate flood level) and rising. The river is likely to reach the major flood level (around 8 metres) this afternoon, and BoM predict it may peak near 8.3 metres this evening.

Texas residents are currently being asked to stay alert - be aware, but not alarmed.

Moderate to major flood levels are occurring along the upper Dumaresq River and tributaries and rural properties will be impacted.  No significant impacts are expected for the town area.

Glenlyon Dam is currently at 117.29% and spilling a significant amount of water into the Dumaresq River. The current level has broken the previous historic record of 110.78% set in January 2011.

The Local Disaster Management Group have already advised Texas flats area residents to evacuate.

Goondiwindi Regional Council and the Local Disaster Management Group will continue to monitor the situation.

Remember, every flood is different. Check the road conditions before you travel and if it’s flooded - forget it.
