Goondiwindi Region Flood Update #8

« Back

Goondiwindi Residents - STAY INFORMED AND BE AWARE, NOT ALARMED.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued flood warnings for the Macintyre River but it is too early for BoM to give accurate predicted peak heights. The Macintyre River peak is expected to be a major flood (this is above 8.5m) reaching Goondiwindi on Friday.

At this time current BoM modelling reflects a range of scenarios within the levee. The biggest risk to Goondiwindi town is if the Macintyre Brook and Dumaresq River peaks meet at the same time. Therefore we will have a much clearer picture tomorrow (Thursday) morning following these peaks passing through Yelarbon and Texas overnight.

Our update tomorrow will provide more information, in the meantime refresh your emergency plan and have an evacuation kit ready. For more information visit the Get Ready Queensland website https://www.getready.qld.gov.au which has a series of fact sheets and resources available to help get you started.

The Goondiwindi evacuation centre at the Goondiwindi Showground is currently open for Yelarbon residents.
