Goondiwindi Region Flood Update #14 – Goondiwindi Town - 3 December 2021

« Back

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) have this morning [Friday] again issued a major flood warning for Goondiwindi, with a peak of 10.7 m.  The peak is expected Saturday morning and will be prolonged in nature.

The predicted river height is within the levee bank, and is similar to the March 2011 levels.

The Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) will issue an emergency alert ‘Watch and Act’ message via SMS and automated landline call to Goondiwindi residents this morning.

A Watch and Act message means residents need to keep informed, and to act now with preparations, but there is no need for panic or for evacuation at this time.

LDMG is working with local stakeholders to ensure that vulnerable members of the community that require additional time and resources (e.g. specialist medical support) have appropriate plans in place to act early.

The Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) continue to plan for all eventualities.

The 24 hour quad bike levee bank monitoring will continue until after the peak has passed.

The LDMG will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide communication to our residents as it is available.

Residents should be aware that the official BoM electronic readings of the Macintyre River heights at Goondiwindi differ by approximately 15 cm lower compared to the visual markers at the Macintyre Bridge.  All official flood planning, predications and communications reference the official BoM electronic readings, and this has been the case since before the 2011 flood event.
