Goondiwindi Regional Council is encouraging Inglewood residents who have been impacted by this week’s flood event to apply for financial assistance if eligible.

Grants are now available under jointly-funded Commonwealth/State-Disaster Relief Funding Arrangements (DRFA) to residents of Inglewood who are experiencing financial hardship as a result of the flooding, including Emergency Hardship Assistance grants of up to $180 per person and $900 for a family of five.

This financial assistance helps cover the costs of essential items, such as food, medication and clothing, for people who have been directly impacted by this disaster event.

Other grants such as the Essential Household Contents Grant, Essential Services Hardship Assistance, Structural Assistance Grant, and grants under the Essential Services Safety and Reconnection Scheme, are also available to eligible residents who have experienced certain loss or damage following the flood.

Grant applications can be made through the Community Recovery online portal at www.communityrecovery.qld.gov.au. Residents without internet access can ring the Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349, or drop and see the friendly team at the Community Recovery Hub in the Inglewood Civic Centre.

The Community Recovery Hub (Inglewood Civic Centre) will be open daily 9-4 pm from tomorrow [Saturday 4 December] for assistance.

Support agencies including Lifeline, the Salvation Army, Insurance Council of Australia, Queensland Health, the Queensland Building and Construction Commission, as well as mental health support workers, will be in Inglewood from Saturday.

It is expected that a pop up Suncorp Insurance customer service desk will also be available at the Hub from early next week.

Council strongly encourages affected residents to make use of the help available and take the opportunity to speak face-to-face with the friendly team at the Community Recovery Hub.

Outreach services from the Inglewood Community Recovery Hub will also be provided to surrounding communities, including Texas, as necessary.

For assistance with immediate clean-up damage to property, contact the SES on 132 500.
