Mayor urges local businesses to report flood impact to build region’s case for funding

Goondiwindi Regional Council is asking impacted businesses from across the entire region to fill out a short Queensland Government survey to help build up an accurate picture of the local flood damage and build the region’s case for additional flood recovery funding.

Complete the survey here: https://www.business.qld.gov.au/running-business/protecting-business/disaster-resilience/assistance

Any information you provide will be confidential. Council is hopeful that the survey results will help to trigger the release of recovery grants for small businesses and primary producers under the Disaster Relief Funding Arrangements, jointly administered by the Queensland and Australian Governments.

Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM is encouraging all local businesses to report their impact, no matter how small or where they are in the region.

“The flood impact across our region has been devastating for many, from Inglewood down to Texas, across to Yarrill Creek and now especially out west,” the Mayor said.

“From crop and livestock losses to workforce impacts, to infrastructure, building or equipment damage – it’s extremely important that primary producers, business owners and anyone else impacted by this event let us know what level of damage they sustained.

“We know that many businesses across the region, including in the Goondiwindi CBD, have been impacted by the significant road closures disrupting their supplies. We definitely encourage businesses to report this in the survey to demonstrate the full scale of this impact to the state government. Hopefully, this will trigger some support funding for businesses.”

Council encourages businesses from every industry to complete the survey. While many agricultural businesses in the region have already reported their damage to the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF), Council is still asking them to complete this survey as well.

Cr Springborg is also reminding flood-affected residents to drop in to the Community Recovery Hub at the Inglewood Civic Centre, open daily 9 am to 4 pm for this week only. The friendly team at the Community Recovery Hub can help eligible residents to apply for financial assistance grants.

For more information, drop in to the Hub, visit https://www.communityrecovery.qld.gov.au or call the Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349.

“From tenancy support to cash for immediate essential needs and grants towards essential household contents and services, support IS available - so please make the most of the opportunity to speak to the team for face-to-face assistance,” he said.
