Meditrans kicks off the new year with a new vehicle

Goondiwindi Regional Council welcomed the generous donation of a new vehicle and accessories by Tait Ford and local ARB supplier Diesel Care to the Goondiwindi Region Meditrans service. 

Council has collaborated with Darling Downs Health and Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN since 2017 to deliver the Meditrans service. The service transports patients from across our region to Toowoomba to access specialist medical care that cannot be accessed in the Goondiwindi region.

The new Ford Everest, replaces the previous Rav 4, donated by Tait Toyota, that clocked up nearly 350,000kms over the past four years. 

Numerous local businesses within our community also generously support the Meditrans service: Tait Ford also kindly donate the cost of regular services; Goondiwindi Tyre Service (GTS) generously assist with the maintenance of tyres and wheel alignments; and The Larder kindly donate coffee for the volunteer drivers.

Goondiwindi Mayor, the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg, AM said “this service is a huge asset to our community.  We are just so fortunate to have so many businesses and volunteers that contribute to such worthy causes.”

The service is made possible by a team of generous volunteers who give their time to keep the wheels on the road - however, more volunteer drivers are always welcome to ensure it can continue.

If you are able to volunteer - driving as little as a few times a year - your assistance would greatly help our region and ensure our community members can access the specialist medical care they need.

The Meditrans service has continued to operate throughout the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic with a COVIDsafe plan in place, providing important access to essential healthcare for many in our community.

The Mayor said “Sincere thanks are also due to the drivers themselves.”
