Goondiwindi Region at your fingertips: new interactive touchscreens show off the best of the region to visitors

« Back

Visitors will have the best of the Goondiwindi Region at their fingertips thanks to two new interactive touch-screen displays at the Goondiwindi and Inglewood Visitor Information Centres (VICs).

The new touch-screens feature a suite of videos on different topics, from the region’s history and industry, to arts and culture, outdoor adventures and fun with the kids. The videos also include interviews with local producers and businesses, and promote lots of different activities right across the region.

Visitors can easily find the exact information they want by clicking through the engaging visual display that features inspiring promotional imagery from around the whole region. Easy-to-scan QR codes within the display also provide visitors with everything they need to explore the Goondiwindi Region right from their phones, including detailed lists of local places to eat and stay.

Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM said the new touch-screens provide an additional interactive offering to the wealth of promotional material in which Council has already invested for the region.

“I’m very impressed with the new interactive visitor guides,” Cr Springborg said. “They are a great addition to our region’s promotional material and give visitors a hands-on, customised guide to the Goondiwindi Region according to their interests,” he said.

“We have a very friendly and experienced volunteer team on hand within the Goondiwindi VIC who can help our visitors with the new touch-screen displays, but for those visitors who just don’t feel confident using tech, we also have paper copies of new visitor guides, maps and brochures that include region-wide attractions, itineraries and accommodation options.

“These interactive guides have been entirely written, filmed, designed and programmed in-house, and will support our local VIC volunteers in the wonderful service they provide to our visitors. This is about increasing and updating our existing tourism offerings in the age of technology, not replacing any of our existing in-person services.”

Estimates suggest more than 321,000 visitors came to the Goondiwindi Region in 2019-20, worth around $50.7 million to the local economy.

Cr Springborg also holds Council’s portfolio for Tourism and said the new touch-screen displays aligned with the region’s Visitor Economy Strategy to build digital capacity, improve local VIC operations and create a collaborate approach to local promotion across the region.

“This project complements several significant recent Council investments in the Goondiwindi Region’s visitor economy, including the creation of the ‘Visitor Experience Coordinator’ role for the Goondiwindi Region, a suite of professional images for local businesses to use in their marketing material, and a complete overhaul of the Inglewood VIC.”

Other recent investments include the award-winning Yelarbon silo artwork, the successful ‘#VisitGoondiwindiRegion’ campaign and the new Goondiwindi Region Tourism Ambassador program.
