Park upgrades boost picnic potential in Inglewood

A suite of Goondiwindi Regional Council projects in Inglewood will boost the town’s appearance and liveability while encouraging visitors to pull up for a picnic.

Council has installed two new shade shelters and replaced the previous picnic tables and chairs at both the Inglewood Garden Club rest area and Apex-Lions Park in Inglewood.

In coming weeks, Council will also apply anti-graffiti paint to the skate park in the Apex-Lions Park.

The Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM said the new improvements would help to create a great impression of the town and encourage visitors to pull up and explore.

“We know from lots of feedback from local businesses that visitors form an important part of town trade in Inglewood,” Cr Springborg said. “Especially local shops and cafes and of course the great tourism businesses in the town such as local produce, historic museum and Coolmunda Dam.

“Inglewood is a popular rest-stop for visitors travelling along the Cunningham Highway, and the new picnic facilities at the Lions Park are ideally located to encourage visitors to pull up and explore what town has to offer,” he said.

The new picnic facilities complement a number of recent Council projects to support tourism in Inglewood, including a refurbishment of the Inglewood Visitor Information Centre, mentoring with local tourism operators, and the Goondiwindi Region Ambassador Program.

The Inglewood Visitor Information Centre refurbishments included new tourism displays, a map of local tourism attractions and a new touch screen that showcases local produce such as organic olives and lavender products.

Cr Springborg said the upgrades would also help boost the livability of the town for local residents.

“It’s no surprise that the Lions Club Park in particular is very popular with residents and their families, with everything from BBQs to a great play area and skate park on the leafy banks of the Macintyre Brook,” he said.

“The new picnic facilities are another great addition to that space and the anti-graffiti paint will help keep it looking clean and tidy for locals, as well as help to reduce ongoing maintenance costs to Council over the years.

“Council has committed $2.25 million this year to maintain and upgrade parks and gardens across the region,” he said.

Council manages and maintains 25 parks, gardens and ovals across the Goondiwindi Region.
