Message from the Mayor

On behalf of the people of the Goondiwindi Region, I extend our deepest condolences to the Royal Family following the death of our Head of State, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This is a time of profound sadness for millions around the world.

For over 70 years, Her Majesty has been a bedrock of stability, comfort, certainty and guidance and we join those across the Commonwealth in expressing our condolences.

Her Majesty has been universally admired and respected as an exemplar of duty and service, without peer in living human history - since becoming Head of State in 1952.

The Queen was much loved and admired across the globe, a sentiment extending well beyond the realms of the Commonwealth of Nations and will be remembered fondly for her integrity, courage, compassion and dignity.

It is with great sadness, that I join with all the people of the Goondiwindi Region in mourning Her Majesty’s death.

Council’s flags will now be flying at half-mast for two weeks.

If anyone is in Brisbane and would like to lay flowers in her memory, Queensland Government House gates will be open 8am to 4pm daily, for more information visit - https://www.govhouse.qld.gov.au/

Buckingham Palace have advised the Queensland government that online messages of support and condolences are preferred.  The official State of Queensland Condolence Book is available at www.qld.gov.au/condolences.  The messages of support and condolence provided to the State of Queensland Condolence Book will then be collated and forwarded via Government House Queensland for transmission to Buckingham Palace.  For those residents unable to complete the online condolence book, you may visit our Customer Service Centres in Goondiwindi, Texas or Inglewood and we will assist with entering your message.
