Rarely do the small halls of Australia have the chance to roll out their red carpet for international musicians.

This summer, in partnership with Festival of Small Halls, Goondiwindi Regional Council welcomes American folk raconteur Vance Gilbert and Australian singer-songwriter Liz Stringer to the Texas Memorial Hall.

“This is the third Small Halls tour that we’ve had,” said Community Development Officer David Hayward.

“It’s been really important for Texas and very beneficial to the community to have those performances that we otherwise might not have had."

The border town is always open to visitors.

"Texas has a reputation for being a really friendly town,” said Mr Hayward.

“We have a lot of caravaners pass through - it’s a quiet town off the main highway, but still with access to all the amenities, and is close to the south-east corner of Queensland, only four hours drive to Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast."

Texas Memorial Hall has hosted the community of Texas for around 60 years and is a beautifully preserved building.

"It has an art deco style frontage to it,” said Mr Hayward.

“It’s 60 years old and is central to the town’s main street, with a main square in front of it. It’s quite an all-rounder, with all events from school speech nights, to the local choir practice, to line dancing and martial arts. And at this time of year, a folk concert!"

Festival of Small Halls arrives in Texas at the Texas Memorial Hall for one night only on:

Doors open 6.30pm.
