Tait Motors Gets Meditrans Rolling

Goondiwindi Regional Council is proud to announce that the Meditrans Service will be up and running shortly, thanks in a big way to David Tait from Tait Motors Goondiwindi. Tait Motors have kindly donated a Toyota Rav 4 as the patient transfer vehicle for the trial period of the service.

The Meditrans Service will provide transport to able-bodied residents to specialist medical appointments in Toowoomba.  The aim of the service is to reduce travelling costs, stress and the anxiety of residents who are eligible to receive the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme.

Health Portfolio holder Councillor David Turner said, “This service is very much the result of working collaboratively with a team of keen and enthusiastic people from Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service, the Primary Health Network, Tait Motors and the Goondiwindi Regional Council.”

Similarly, the position of Coordinator Centre and Community Care has now been finalized and Council is delighted to announce that Susan Salisbury will be taking up the position in early November.  Further information on Susan’s contact details will be announced soon.

Council has received numerous expressions for volunteer drivers for the service and is expecting to begin training them shortly. Volunteer drivers will play an essential role in the success of this trial. Expressions of interest for drivers will remain open so please call into the Council office to complete a form.

“Council is very happy to be able to help provide this service to the community and is very grateful to Tait Motors for being community minded with their assistance in providing a car,” said Mayor Scheu. “Further information will be provided with the support of the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service soon”.
