Volunteer Drivers Needed For Medical Transport

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful investment while helping others, then Goondiwindi Regional Council has the venture for you.  Council is now accepting Expressions of Interest for volunteer drivers to join the team for the Meditrans Service.

As part of Council’s initiative in delivering better health to the region and with successful funding approvals, Council will collaborate with the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service to establish and conduct a twelve-month pilot of the Goondiwindi Meditrans Service.  The Meditrans Service will provide transport to able-bodied residents to specialist medical appointments in Toowoomba.  The aim of the service is to reduce travelling costs, stress and the anxiety of residents who are eligible to receive the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme.

“Volunteer drivers will play an essential role in the success of the Meditrans trial’ said Mayor Scheu, “If you are motivated to work as a volunteer, please call into the Council office at 4 McLean Street or 100 Marshall Street Goondiwindi to collect an Expression of Interest Form”.

The Meditrans Service provides personnel to drive and accompany clients in a supplied car to appointments and to provide the appropriate assistance along the way.  “Further information will be provided once the Coordinator Centre and Community Care is employed, however, to enable the service to be up and running promptly expressions of interest are open immediately for volunteers” said Mayor Scheu.
