COUNCIL AWARDS TWIN TENDERS
Goondiwindi Mayor Graeme Scheu today announced that the tenders for the kerbside collection and the Goondiwindi landfill were awarded to E & E Waste and Proterra Group respectively. Following the reassessment of financial workings, this proposal showed up as the best result for Council with both tenders provided, providing the best value to Council considering all options.
A Special Meeting of Goondiwindi Regional Council reconsidered the evaluations due to an error contained in the original information supplied to Council.
“The goal posts have moved drastically and it is now clear with the correct information, which of the tenders is the most attractive to Council,’’ Councillor Scheu explained at the meeting.
“It is certainly not ideal having to repeal the original decision and revisit the tender but it was the right option to Council under the circumstances”.
Councillor Scheu reminded the interested parties that the Council was obliged to work under the restraints of the Local Government Act 2009, which meant there was five days’ notice for the meeting to repeal and two days’ notice for the meeting to finally decide on the tender.
He said Council agreed that a second peer review should be incorporated into the decision, which arguably should had been included from the start with a tender of this size.
“Council needed to be comfortable with the revised appraisal which was available to all Councillors Wednesday and once that was cleared the meeting was called,” he said.
Councillor Scheu apologised for any inconvenience caused through the delayed process.
“It was imperative that the matter was resolved correctly and openly which was done under the process we applied,’’ he said.
Councillor Scheu congratulated the successful tenderers and thanked everyone who had participated in the tender process.
