MAYOR’S APOLOGY

Goondiwindi Regional Council Mayor Graeme Scheu has offered a formal apology to the unsuccessful applicants for the Texas Pool Tender due to an oversight that occurred following the meeting of Council on Wednesday 28 June.

The meeting decided on the successful tender to operate the Texas Pool. As several rumours had circulated in Texas the previous week about the tender and the community was eagerly awaiting the decision, it was in the community interest to get the message out as soon as possible.

As Mayor, I requested that our Community Facilities Officer advise the successful and unsuccessful applicants of the decision. I also approved a press release be distributed in the community interest.

Unfortunately, with two different departments handling the task, the press release was distributed shortly before all applicants were advised of the decision.  I made an error in failing to stipulate that the press release should not be distributed until it was confirmed that all applicants had all been advised.

It is certainly not satisfactory that applicants may have heard of the decision before they were officially informed by the Council.  I take full responsibility for the error and apologise to those affected.
