TEXAS SCHOOL TO GET UPGRADED PARKING

Goondiwindi Regional Council has approved revised concept plans for parking in front of the Texas School and crossing areas.

The revised plan will include walkways to the north and south of the school gate as well as a dedicated bus lane to drop off students. This will encourage children to take the designated walkways and not short cut through the parking area in front of the school.

The revision came about when an assessment was conducted by the Department of Transport and Main Roads in regards to the need for a school crossing. The crossing was found to be unwarranted and therefore was removed.

“Concept plans were prepared following a meeting at the school and were adopted at the Ordinary Meeting of Council held today,” Mayor Graeme Scheu said.  Mayor Scheu concedes that not everyone was in favour of the plan but there is a majority of support from the School, School P & C and the Police.

“We will include the funding in our application to the State Governments Works for Queensland Funding Program which was announced in the Budget. Subject to funding approval, the works should be completed by the end of the year.  It is hoped that work on the project will take place in school holidays to avoid any interruptions.
