BUDGET INCLUDES NEW TOURISM EVENT FUNDING

Goondiwindi Regional Council has this week approved a new funding grant budget for tourism events in the region.

The top tier of funding is available for those events that are generating in excess of $500,000 economic benefit.

Goondiwindi Regional Council has created this policy in recognition of the role we can play in supporting events of economic benefit to the Region.

Mr Brett Corish, President of Hell of the West stated ‘Our committee works year round behind the scenes, and our volunteers on the day are in the hundreds.  We all do this because it is a great event, for not only the competitors, but also our community.  Tourism and Events Queensland data indicates Hell of the West generates over $700,000 for our local economy, which is just phenomenal.  Goondiwindi Regional Council has always supported us proudly, but this extra funding will go a long way to keeping the event alive and continuing to grow.’

Council recognises that tourism events within the region can increase visitor spending, encourage the uptake of overnight accommodation as well as facilitate partnering with local businesses to stimulate local business revenue and local employment.

This funding program aims to:

  • Position the region and grow its reputation as a tourism and events destination
  • Maximise the economic, media and community values of tourism events
  • Promote the region as an area of preference for families, lifestyle and business opportunity
  • Encourage best practice in the development and implementation of events
  • Facilitate a culture that supports a vibrant events calendar within the Goondiwindi region.

Goondiwindi Regional Council is proud of the extensive calendar of events in the region, and are committed to furthering their support and promotion of tourism events for the economic benefit of the Council area.
