Green Waste Contamination

Council is experiencing significant issues with contamination of Green Waste at the waste management facilities located throughout the Goondiwindi Regional Council area.

Green waste is stored in a separate area from other waste materials at all landfills and transfer stations because it is processed differently.  Council is seeking the assistance of residents to separate their wastes when using the waste management facilities.

“We really need people to help us save them money by separating their loads wherever possible,” Council’s Waste Management Portfolio representative Councillor Rob MacKenzie said. “It costs the community a lot of money to pick through it later and separate it, which can only be collected through rates.”

“We just need people to think about separating things when loading their trailer or ute and then use the separate areas provided,” Councillor Mackenzie said.

Council will roll out improved signage and segregation areas at all landfills and transfer stations throughout the next 12 months.
