INGLEWOOD POOL AMENITIES BLOCK UNDERWAY

Inglewood residents will notice some activity at the Inglewood Pool during this offseason as the refurbishment of the amenities and kiosk building is completed.

The project is jointly funded by Council and the Queensland Government Get Playing Plus Program to improve the opportunities for sport and recreation at the centre.

Council received great support from Russel Leicht of Arenkay Building Designs during the consultation and design of the project.

Arenkay Building Designs also ran an extensive tender process that resulted in the award of the tender to Magnes Projects Pty Ltd.  Whilst no local businesses submitted a tender in their own right, Magnes Projects Pty Ltd could be regarded as almost local given that it was co-founded by a former local Gary Johnstone and is currently owned and operated by his son Aaron.

“Our family was born and bred from Inglewood, we still have a large family base in Inglewood and we are really excited to be able to deliver this project for the local community,” Director Aaron Johnstone said.

“Gary will be supervising the project and actually attended the opening of the existing Inglewood Pool 50 years ago and has some very fond childhood memories of training and competing in swimming events for Inglewood in that pool.”

The tender process required that each submission provided an outline of the local sub-contractors that are expected to be engaged on the project.  Magnes Projects Pty Ltd have committed to utilising the services of several local businesses.

Goondiwindi Regional Council Sport and Recreation Portfolio representative Councillor Lachlan Brennan said, “We are excited to be able to deliver this project to build upon the $1.6m pool replacement delivered several years ago.”

“The new facilities will address emerging maintenance issues and provide better facilities for the delivery of a range of services considered necessary at a contemporary aquatic centre,” Councillor Brennan said.

Construction is scheduled to start in late April and is expected to be completed in early August to meet the scheduled season opening in September.
